I created this page to document parts found to fix or replace parts that are not listed. Many times in servicing older vehicles we come across a part we need to replace and the dealer no longer supports the vehicle and the part is not actively known to be useable for the application to that specific vehicle. I will be updating the information as we find these solutions.
We had a 1988 Jeep Comanche come in for service. We found the parking light and turn signal in front was not working. We replaced the bulb and it continued to not work. We determined the socket to the lamp was the problem. After searching under Jeep we had to turn to alternative methods to solve the problem. We found this Dorman turn signal socket listed for 1989-74 Ford fit perfectly for a 1988 Jeep Comanche turn signal socket. So Dorman part # 85898 works perfectly for a 1988 Jeep Comanche parking/turn signal lamp holder in the front. https://www.dormanproducts.com/p-16576-85898.aspx?origin=keyword
We had a 1999 Mercury Villager come in and the THIRD Brake (HiMount) light bulb sockets were melted. Looking through the Dorman catalog I found two possibilities. the first Dorman # 85864, fit in the socket; however when the assembly was put back in, the wires from the socket were hitting the body and would NOT work. On the second try I found Dorman part # 85868 which turns the wires by 90 degrees and did work beautifully. So for a 1999 Mercury Villager; Dorman part # 85868 works perfectly for the third brake light assembly.
One of our customer's brought us a Commer Van from the U.K. to service. He had this oil filter shipped over so that we could change the oil and filter on it. What I have found is that this filter crosses over to other filters available here in the United States. The Alco SP-816 interchanges with the following filters; Fram PH16, WIX 51521, or the AC Delco PF13.
